8. Dongshan River Water Park

Events: Rowing
Transportation: Take TRA to Luodong Station and transfer to Dongshan River Route Green 21 to Dongshan River Water Park stop.

Despite its modest 24-kilometer length, the Dongshan River holds a significant place as the fifth-longest stream in Yilan, weaving through the picturesque landscapes of Luodong, Dongshan, and Wujie counties. To harness its potential for recreation, a comprehensive riverside area has been crafted, offering a diverse range of sports, leisure, and relaxation activities. Divided into upstream, midstream, and downstream sections, each stretch of the river promises a unique recreational experience, akin to an outdoor water park. At the heart of this initiative lies the Dongshan River Water Park, a focal point designed to harmonize with nature and celebrate the local Lanyang culture.

Here, the park’s features pay homage to the area’s heritage, with elements like a water stage and five towering stone structures reminiscent of Turtle Island off the Yilan coast. Legend has it that the riverbanks are guarded by a green dragon and a yellow dragon, inspiring the design of pebble-built undulations resembling dragon scales. Intricate mosaic artwork, crafted by the children of Lanyang, adorns these dragon-inspired features, adding a touch of whimsy to the landscape.

Throughout the year, the Dongshan River Park comes alive with vibrant festivities. From the exhilarating Dragon Boat races to the enchanting international toy festival, there’s always something exciting happening along its shores. And for the romantic at heart, the park transforms on Qixi Chinese Lovers’ Day, complete with a magpie bridge symbolizing the reunion of legendary lovers. It’s no wonder that in recent years, the Dongshan River Water Park has emerged as one of Taiwan’s most sought-after tourist destinations, offering a perfect blend of natural beauty, cultural richness, and festive charm.
