Sigiriya Rock is Sri Lanka‘s wonder of the world. It is a massive column of rock that juts out 660 feet over the jungle below. Pidurangala Rock sits just a seven-minute drive away from Sigiriya Rock. It is equally prominent and rises almost as high as its neighbor. The hike up to the top is pleasant and mostly shaded and will take you by an ancient temple with a reclining Buddha statue. The views from the summit are even better than from the top of Sigiriya Rock, with completely unobstructed, 360-degree vistas of the vast countryside.
The two rocks are located in the small town of Sigiriya, which is about a 30-minute tuk-tuk ride from the larger tourist hub of Dambulla. Once you get there, the price to climb Sigiriya Rock is 30 USD. However, it must be paid in LKR according to the exchange rate at the time you visit. This will be about 5,000 to 5,500 LKR. The entry fee for Pidurangala Rock is comparatively much cheaper, at only 3 USD (500 to 550 LKR).
You should definitely see both rocks if you have the time, as they are so easily accessible from one another. 8. Marvel at the beautiful DAMBULLA CAVE TEMPLE
Dambulla Cave Temple is a large and well-preserved cave temple complex in central Sri Lanka. Also known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla, it is carved into a rock face that stands 520 feet above the surrounding plains. 9. Experience Sri Lankan history at POLONNARUWA VATADAGE
The Polonnaruwa Vatadage is a religious structure located at the site of the ancient city of Polonnaruwa. It is one of the best-preserved buildings of the Kingdom of Polonnaruwa, which existed from the 11th to the 14th century. The structure is believed to have been constructed during the 12th century, and there are two theories as to why. One is that it was built by King Parakramabahu the Great to house a sacred tooth relic of the Buddha, and the other is that it was built by King Nissanka Malla to hold the Buddha’s alms bowl. 7. Climb both SIGIRIYA ROCK and PIDURANGALA ROCK
Sigiriya Rock is Sri Lanka‘s wonder of the world. It is a massive column of rock that juts out 660 feet over the jungle below. Dambulla Cave Temple is a large and well-preserved cave temple complex in central Sri Lanka. Also known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla, it is carved into a rock face that stands 520 feet above the surrounding plains. The temples were constructed over several centuries, with the oldest dating all the way back to the first century BCE. Monks are thought to have inhabited the area since the third century BCE.

9. Experience Sri Lankan history at POLONNARUWA VATADAGE
The Polonnaruwa Vatadage is a religious structure located at the site of the ancient city of Polonnaruwa. It is one of the best-preserved buildings of the Kingdom of Polonnaruwa, which existed from the 11th to the 14th century. The structure is believed to have been constructed during the 12th century, and there are two theories as to why. One is that it was built by King Parakramabahu the Great to house a sacred tooth relic of the Buddha, and the other is that it was built by King Nissanka Malla to hold the Buddha’s alms bowl. In the center of the structure, there is a stupa which would have contained the relic.
