Singapore Itinerary: Be Your Own Tour Guide & Plan a 3-Day Trip!

Known for being a multicultural island city-state, Singapore has lots of delicious foods, great sights, amazing shopping opportunities, and a fun nightlife scene. Plan to visit popular attractions like Universal Studios Singapore and Supertree Grove for a 2- or 3-day Singapore itinerary that is perfect for you!
Singapore Itinerary – Suggested Tours & Things to Do
This Singapore itinerary includes enough things to do in Singapore for two or three days. Stick to the plan or mix and match popular attractions according to what places you want to visit most. Because Singapore is so well connected by its mass rapid transportation system (Singapore MRT), navigating to the sights is easy and fast.
Day One
Morning: On the way to the Colonial District, also known as the Civic District, stop for breakfast in Raffles Place, which is home to many cheap and delicious restaurants. After breakfast, continue to the Colonial District and explore the area.
Afternoon: Visitors can opt to visit one of the local museums for the afternoon. Many of the museums in Singapore are located in the Colonial District, including the National Museum of Singapore, the National Gallery Singapore, the Asian Civilisations Museum, the Peranakan Museum, and The Battlebox (also known as the Fort Canning Bunker). For lunch, choose a local restaurant that features food items only available in Singapore. Try bah kut teh (meat bone tea) or wonton mee, one of Singapore’s signature noodle dishes.
Evening: Finish the day with a visit to Gardens by the Bay and the adjoining waterfront promenades in Marina Bay. Don’t forget to visit Cloud Forest, the Flower Dome, and Supertree Grove, which features OCBC Skyway, a128m-long, elevated walkway that allows visitors to get close to the vertical gardens situated in Supertree Grove.
Day Two
Morning: Start the day in the Joo Chiat neighborhood and grab breakfast while admiring the area’s brightly-colored colonial bungalows, called Peranakan Houses. This area is also known for food, so travelers should come hungry. Be sure to try the famous spicy coconut milk noodle soup, laksa, while in the area, and also enjoy Joo Chiat’s traditional shopping outlets where Peranakan clothing and wares are sold.
Afternoon: Spend some time in Little India and experience the colorful neighborhood while seeking out one of the oldest temples in Singapore, Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple. After enjoying the temple, journey to Sakya Muni Buddha Gaya Temple (Temple of 1000 Lights) and visit this popular Buddhist temple with its 15-meter high statue of Buddha. Be sure to stop at Tekka Centre and grab something to eat as this is one of the best places in Little India to sample Indian snacks.
Evening: Visit Clarke Quay and enjoy a drink or two while taking in the nightlife of Singapore. With plenty of great bars, clubs, and live music establishments, Clarke Quay has some of the best nightlife options in Singapore.
Day Three
Morning: Get up early and grab breakfast on Orchard Road and then get shopping. With a mix of boutiques, department stores, and discount retail outlets, this is a great area to shop for souvenirs and eat. Be sure to check out Newton Food Centre and sample an amazing variety of delicious foods.
Afternoon: Head over to Chinatown and stop by Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, which is said to house one of Buddha’s canine teeth. Enjoy exploring the area, take in the vibrant cultures, and don’t forget to eat. Chinatown has many great choices for street food, and travelers who are looking to save some money can stop at Chinatown Food Street where various street food hawkers (including a few Michelin Bib Gourmand award-winning vendors) sell popular Singapore dishes. Consider taking a guided walking tour to learn more about the history of Chinatown.
Evening: There are plenty of great nightlife options in Chinatown. After eating and shopping, travelers can choose a bar on Amoy Street or Telok Ayer. Club Street also features a good assortment of local bars and clubs.

Singapore Itinerary – Day Trips & More Things To Do
Some travelers may wonder whether three days in Singapore is enough. Visitors looking to extend their stay in Singapore should consider a day trip. Day trips from Singapore include everything from stunning beaches and amusement parks to quiet island getaways and nature reserves. Here are some top day trip destinations from Singapore.
1. Sentosa Island
This island resort is a popular destination for locals and tourists alike, as it is home to many of Singapore’s major attractions, including Universal Studios Singapore and Palawan Beach. Sentosa Island is connected to Singapore by cable car and bridge, so travelers can opt to take public transit across, walk, or take a scenic ride on a cable car! Visitors looking for a way to extend their Singapore itinerary to 7 days should consider a stay on Sentosa Island.
2. Johor Bahru, Malaysia
Because Singapore is very close to Malaysia, adventurers may wish to take a day trip across the border. Johor Bahru is a popular destination for travelers and with good reason. Located within the Malaysian city is LEGOLAND Malaysia, Sanrio Hello Kitty Town, and the Grand Palace of Johor (Istana Besar Johor).
Travelers wishing to visit Johor Bahru can easily take a bus from Singapore at the Woodlands Temporary Bus Interchange, and trains are also an option for travel between the two regions. Travelers can catch a train from Woodlands Train Checkpoint, which is located near the Marsiling MRT Station and the Woodlands Temporary Bus Interchange, near the northern border between Singapore and Malaysia.
It is good to remember that visitors will need to go through customs between Singapore and Malaysia and should plan on needing extra time during the day for this. If travelers are driving or will be taking the bus, the trip itself should take less than an hour. However, if visitors are traveling during peak hours, it can take between three and four hours to travel from one country to the next. Be sure to avoid peak hours as many people travel to and from Singapore for work from Malaysia. Peak hours vary, but generally weekend traffic (especially on Sundays) and weekday commuter traffic will extend border wait times. If travelers are looking to save time, taking the train to Johor Bahru is one of the better options. However, travelers should plan ahead and purchase tickets for the train early, as tickets may sell out.
3. Pulau Ubin
For travelers interested in visiting other islands near Singapore, but would prefer a destination that is less busy than Sentosa Island, Pulau Ubin is a great choice. Outdoor lovers will especially enjoy Pulau Ubin as there are trails, cycle paths, and traditional villages (kampongs) all waiting to be explored. To get to the island, take a boat from Changi Point Ferry Terminal near Changi Airport (about 20 minutes from Tanah Merah MRT Station). When arriving from the MRT station, travelers will need to head to Exit B at the station and take Bus 2 from Tanah Merah MRT Station to Changi Village, which will take visitors within walking distance of Changi Point Ferry Terminal. Travelers will need to carry exact change for the boat ticket (3 SGD) and should expect the ride across to take about 15 minutes.

Singapore Itinerary – Traveling in Singapore
There are lots of ways to get around in Singapore and all visitors need to do is decide which method is best for them. Singapore is well connected by public transit with the Singapore MRT, so travelers who are looking to save a little money or who are hoping for an efficient way to get around the city should make use of this fantastic system. Visitors who are flying to Singapore are likely to arrive at Changi Airport, which is the main airport in the area and also one of the largest hubs in Southeast Asia.
Visitors to Singapore can opt for either individual tickets for the MRT or for a travel card: EZ-Link and NETS FlashPay are the most popular cards. Travel cards can be purchased at convenience stores, as well as at any MRT ticket office. Travel cards eliminate the need for cash and can be used on either the MRT, light rail, or bus system.
Additionally, it may be possible for travelers to use shuttle services from their hotels or taxi services. Anyone who needs assistance in hailing a taxi should ask their concierge or someone at guest services for help. While taking a taxi may be more expensive than making use of the Singapore MRT, it can be a great option for anyone needing to get somewhere in a hurry or looking to skip the fuss of navigating through a mass transportation system.
Singapore Itinerary – Travel Tips
Singapore is a safe and beautiful city and is a great place for travelers to explore. Here are some handy tips that can help visitors to Singapore save a little money and have a stress-free vacation.
- Tipping isn’t customary in Singapore. However, it is not considered rude to leave a tip if someone provides great service.
- For budget travelers, plan to visit Singapore during the off-season. Avoid big holidays, such as Chinese New Year in January or February, or travel to the city between August to October.
- Be sure to bring a water bottle! The tap water is tasty in Singapore. According to the World Heath Organization (WHO), tap water in the city is safe and can be enjoyed from the tap without needing filtration.
- Ask a local. When visiting a new city, it is a great idea to talk to locals or speak with guest services at the hotel. Often, locals will have great tips and the best insights on where to go, what to eat, and what to see in Singapore!
